THOMPSON – It was a Sunday drive on a Wednesday night for Todd Owen.

Owen checked out from the field to roll to a dominating victory in the 50-lap Sunoco Modified feature Wednesday at Thompson Speedway.

It was the second win in five starts this season at Thompson for Owen, of Somers.

“Thanks to [Cris] Michaud and [Tom] Mayberry for putting this thing on and sticking by us,” Owen said.

Derek Ramstrom of West Boylston, Mass. was second. Zack Sangermano of Plainfield came back from a huge wreck on June 18  at Thompson to finish third.

“Awesome to see Zack [Sangermano] finish third,” Owen said. “… He worked his ass off on that car to get it back.”

Keith Rocco rocketed from eighth to the lead on lap one with Owen following him to second.

By lap five Rocco and Owen had checked out by more than half a straightaway from third place Ramstrom.

On lap 10 Owen remained stalking less than a car length behind Rocco.

By lap 15 the tandem of Rocco and Owen at the front had put a full straightaway lead on third place Ramstrom.

Out of turn four on lap 15 Rocco’s car showed smoke. By turn one on lap 16 the smoke filled the air behind Rocco’s car and the caution flew, sending Rocco from the lead to the pits. It put Owen to the front with Ramstrom in second and Sangermano third.

Owen was able to control at the front on the restart. From there it was checkout time for Owen, who built a two second lead over Ramstrom by lap 30.
