Crystal Ball: Who Will Be The Final 10 Named To NASCAR’s 40 Greatest Modified Tour Drivers List

NASCAR has released the first three parts of its 40 Greatest NASCAR Modified Tour Drivers list as part of the celebration of the series’ 40th anniversary. Three lists of 10 drivers were randomly announced over the past few months, with the latest 10 announced recently.

NASCAR has not revealed specifically who was charged with compiling the list or any sort of qualifications or standards that were set for being named to the list.

So now the question is, who will be the final 10 drivers on the list?

For the sake of argument we’ll assume that whoever compiled this list did so based on stats from 1985 to 2024, meaning any wins in 2025 wouldn’t come into play.

The first 30 drivers named are listed on the graphics below this story.

So, you have to figure the six drivers who have won series championships and haven’t been part of the first 30 named will be part of the final 10. That would include Tony Hirschman (five championships), Jimmy Spencer, Jamie Tomaino, Bobby Santos III, Ryan Preece and Jon McKennedy.

And then we obviously know Reggie Ruggiero, who is third on the division’s all-time win list with 44 victories will be in the final 10. You also have to figure that Matt Hirschman, with nine series victories is an automatic in the final 10 choices.

So that leaves two spots to be filled.

Of the other 30 drivers named to the list so far who didn’t win a championship – excluding Ruggiero and Matt Hirschman – every driver has at least four wins except for Rowan Pennink with three wins.

There are three drivers on the series’ all-time win list that had four victories before this season who have not made the first 30 drivers named. They are James Civali, Craig Lutz and Ryan Newman.

There are four drivers on the series’ all-time win list that had three victories before this season who have not made the first 30 drivers named. They are Austin Beers, Brett Bodine, Tommy Cravenho Jr. and Doug Heveron.

So clearly the Pennink choice shows that whoever was choosing the list had no set benchmark for minimum wins to be on the list. But, we’ll surmise that the final three spots need to be filled by choosing from drivers the drivers not already named with three or four wins which is Beers, Bodine, Civali, Cravenho, Heveron, Lutz and Newman.

Seven drivers, two spots. Who’s gonna make the final cut?

Here’s our guess for who the NASCAR folks making the list have chosen. We’re guessing it will be Beers and Lutz.

Vote on the poll below on who you think the final two will be to make the cut. Make two choices on the poll.
