STAFFORD – About 14 miles away from Stafford Speedway is the campus of University of Connecticut, a place where plenty of NCAA Championships have been celebrated over the years.
Friday night at Stafford though it was a UConn Husky celebration in victory lane at the historic half-mile oval.
Nick Anglace went to the lead on lap 13 and held on through a multitude of restarts to win the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature Friday at Stafford Speedway.
“How many restarts do we have to have to finish this damn race?” Anglace said. “I’m sitting there and every lap I’m like ‘Dude, come on, I’ve got to finish this damn thing.’ … It feels really good to get back to victory lane.”
It was the third career SK Light Modified victory at Stafford for the Seymour driver and his first since July 30, 2021. It was also his first time rolling into victory lane carrying the colors of his first-year sponsor, the UConn Huskies.
“We’ve got a new sponsor this year as everyone hopefully can see,” Anglace said. “We’ve got the UConn Huskies on our car. It means a lot. I’m trying to repair my image with the fans, I’ve been on my best behavior this year. Coming through the field I had to do a little bit of three-wide, but as far as I know, I didn’t touch anybody. I tried to race really really clean.”
Casey Vogt of Windsor Locks was second and Amanda West of Colchester was third.
