STAFFORD – A crashed race car and a 23rd place finish on June 27 left Aaron Plemons leaving Stafford Speedway in a not so great mood.
Friday the Uncasville driver found the perfect way to bounce back from the disappointing night.
Plemons held off P.J. Evans over the closing laps to win the 20-lap Street Stock feature Friday at Stafford.
It was the third victory in eight starts this year for Plemons, who ran full-time in the division in 2023 and then took the 2024 season off.
Plemons got his first career victory in the division on May 16 and got his second win on June 20.
“My dad, he’s got a lot of experience, but he doesn’t have a lot of experience here,” Plemons said. “We took notes from two years ago when we could be here full-time. We missed last year. We were just finally able to put it all together. Ryan [Waterman] helps us out, everybody knows him, he’s great. I just can’t thank everybody enough that helps us to get where we are and my team has really turned it around here.”
Plemons was able to move up to fourth in the division standings, now sitting 38 points behind division leader Bert Ouellette.
“We really needed this win after last week,” Plemons said. “I don’t really pay attention to points a whole lot, but I looked at it and I didn’t like where we were sitting. To come with a win just shows how much we don’t quit. We’re going to keep coming back every week and I just can’t thank all my guys that do it.”
Evans, of Uncasville, was second and Tyler Trott of East Hartford was third. Evans got his first win in the division on June 27.
“This thing has just been fast lately,” Evans said, “Second podium in a row. Definitely a good race. Rough start to the race. Got a little banged up, but that’s Street Stock racing. … Congrats to Aaron on the win. He definitely deserved it.”
Said Plemons: “I grew up PJ. PJ is a freaking wheelman dude. So to see him on your back bumper – he’s a clean driver but he’s also really good.”
Andrew Durand passed Alexandra Fearn for the lead on a lap 12 restart and never trailed again on the way to his first victory of the season in the 30-lap Late Model feature.
It was the fifth career Late Model victory for Durand, of Chicopee, Mass.
Fearn, of East Longmeadow, was second and Paul Varricchio of Berlin was third.
Kevin Cormier of Springfield, Vt. Won the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature. Rich Hammann of Tolland was second and Jeremy Lavoie of Windsor Locks third.
