STAFFORD – The top of the standings for the Late Model division at Stafford Speedway had a familiar look going into Friday’s racing card at the historic half-mile.

Four-time Late Model champion Adam Gray sat atop the standings.

But something was missing when it comes to the season stats for the Granby, Mass. driver.

The win column was empty for Gray.

The veteran changed that with a milestone Friday.

Gray took the lead on lap two and held the top spot the rest of the way to victory in the 30-lap Late Model feature Friday at Stafford.

It was the 40th career Late Model win for Gray, who had Late Model championships at Stafford in 2013, 2014, 2020 and 2022. Gray tied Woody Pitkat for third on the division’s all-time win list.

“I feel like the beginning of our season was pretty rough,” Gray said. “To turn it around here and come and win tonight, it’s pretty good. It helps all our feelings that’s for sure.”

Forty-year plus racing veteran Tom Butler of Stafford was second.

“We’ve been fast, and finally we’re getting closer,” the 65-year old Butler said. “We put a good race together tonight. … Just gotta get the driver a little fine tuned a little bit better. Had a tough go last week, I missed a shift. I think we had a top three last week as well. I think we’re pretty much close to being one of the cars to beat down here and that’s exciting for an old guy like me.”

Chris Meyer of North Franklin was third.
