STAFFORD – Over the last 25 years at Stafford Speedway, Kevin Gambacorta has established himself as one of the all-time greats of the full-fendered weekly divisions at the track.

Gambacorta is the only driver in track history to win championships in three divisions. He won a Street Stock title in 2004, Limited Late Model titles in 2006 and 2011 and Late Model titles in 2023 and 2024. He’s recorded 29 career wins at the track, which includes 18 wins in the Late Model division.

On Friday at Stafford Speedway 14-year old Kolton Gambacorta got his first opportunity to start counting down to matching his dad’s win total at the track.

Kolton Gambacorta started 10th, took the lead from Jeff Asselin with 10 laps remaining and went on to his first career victory in the 20-lap Street Stock feature at Stafford.

A victory as a rookie wasn’t something on the radar for the Kolton Gambacorta, who was a two-time champion in the Wild Thing Karts program at Stafford.

“I was just hoping for a couple top-five’s and a couple top-10’s and not to wreck the car,” Kolton Gambacorta said.

Kolton Gambacorta made two starts in the division last year and was making his 13th start overall on Friday.

The Ellington driver said the pressure of living up to his dad’s accomplishments at Stafford go away when he puts on the helmet.

“Sometimes I feel the pressure but when you’re out on the track you don’t even think about that,” Kolton Gambacorta said.

Brandon Warren of Chicopee, Mass. was second and Travis Downey of Barkhamstead third.
