THOMPSON – Matt Swanson used a sixth place finish in Wednesday’s NASCAR Modified Tour Thompson 150 at Thompson Speedway to stay atop the the FloRacing Connecticut Challenge standings after two of three events.

The FloRacing Connecticut Challenge was introduced this season and is open team owners who have never competed on the NASCAR Modified Tour or haven’t competed with the series in the last three years. The FloRacing Connecticut Challenge mini-series pits eligible teams against each other in the three NASCAR Modified Tour events at Thompson Speedway in 2025.

The final event of the FloRacing Challenge takes place with the running of the Sunoco World Series 150 at Thompson on Oct. 12. First place for the FloRacing Challenge pays $7,500, with $5,000 to second and $2,500 for third. There is also a $1,250 bonus still up for grabs for any eligible team that wins the Sunoco World Series 150. If that bonus goes unclaimed the money will be distributed evenly among all teams who participated in the mini-series.

Swanson came into Wednesday’s event leading the FloRacing Challenge standings following his 10th place finish in the Icebreaker 150 at Thompson on April 16.

“We wanted to put this program together to chase this [FloRacing] Challenge,” Swanson said. “We’ll just come back for the World Series and try to be a little bit better.”

Johnson sat fifth in the standings after the first event, but vaulted to second with his fourth place finish on Wednesday. Johnson now sits 11 points behind Swanson going to the final event.

“My mind wasn’t really about points, but part of that is getting that [FloRacing Challenge] purse,” Johnson said. “It’s definitely going to help us in the points. I don’t really know where we stand because we had a rough first race, but going into the final one it will give us a lot better shot.”

Max Zachem is third in the standings, 21 points behind Swanson.
