STAFFORD – On Aug. 11, 2023 Meghan Fuller scored her long awaited first career SK Light Modified feature victory at Stafford Speedway.
Friday the nearly two-year wait for win No. 2 finally came to an end, in dramatic style.
In the span of a few minutes Fuller went from looking to be on the way to a dominant victory to being embroiled in a dramatic shootout for victory.
Fuller, of Auburn, Mass. saw a 2.6 second lead erased for a late caution and then held off Nickolas Hovey and Nick Anglace over the final four laps to win the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature Friday at Stafford.
“I was kind of sad to see a restart, but also kind of happy because it gave me a little bit of competition,” Fuller said. “There was definitely a pretty good battle there for a minute. I’m just happy to finally be back here. We’ve been striving for this all season.”
Hovey, of Chaplin, was second and Anglace, of Seymour, third.
Fuller went to the lead early and by lap 11 Fuller was checked out from second place Stephen Kalogiannis.
Hovey got past Kalogiannis for second place on lap 12, but Fuller held a 2.6 second lead at the front of the field. Caution flew on lap 17 for Ron Midford’s hard wreck into the turn three wall.
On the lap 17 restart, Fuller and Hovey went side-by-side for a lap. On lap 18 Fuller edged ahead of Hovey off of turn four, with Anglace challenging Hovey. On the final lap Hovey looked to the bottom on Fuller into turn three but found no room to make a move to challenge.
“That was a lot of fun,” Hovey said. “Obviously I want to win, but second is never a bad night points-wise.”
