STAFFORD – On the way to a pair of Late Model division championships at Stafford Speedway the last two seasons, slump wasn’t a word that could be connected to Kevin Gambacorta.

But coming into Friday’s race card at Stafford, it would be fair to term Gamabcorta’s last month of racing at the track as a full-blown slump.

Gambacorta came into Friday’s event with an average finish of 9.5 over the previous four Late Model events at Stafford.

Friday the Ellington driver fixed that issue.

Gambacorta drove away from the field in the closing stages to win the 30-lap Late Model feature Friday at Stafford.

It was the second victory of the season for Gambacorta, who got his first win of 2025 on June 27.

“We’ve had a crummy month,” Gambacorta said. “Just terrible luck. We’ve had two good years where just everything went right for us. It’s part of it. But we needed this tonight to kind of just get some … just feel good again about racing.”

Paul Varricchio Jr. of Berlin was second and Adam Gray of Granby, Mass. third.

With 14 laps remaining, Gambacorta went by Tom Fearn for the lead with Andrew Durand following to second and Varrichio to third.

Gray passed Durand for third on the final lap.

Josh Morrison of Ashford got his first win of the season in the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature.

“It’s huge for our guys,” Morrison said. “For me, my dad, my brother. We’re all working so hard in the shop.”

Matt Brewer of Norwich was second and Daltin McCarthy of Oxford, Mass. third.

Gary Patnode of Coventry passed Rich Hammann for the lead with 11 laps remaining and held off Jason Lafayette and Travis Hydar at the checkered to win the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature.

“That looked like a pretty good finish for the fans,” Patnode said. “The car was a rock star tonight. I knew we had a good piece.”

Lafayette, of Somers, was second and Hydar, of Woodbury, was third.
