WATERFORD – Characterizing himself as a part-timer in the SK Light Modified division at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl is becoming harder and harder each week for Corey Barry to do.

Coming into the 2015 season Barry, the 2014 SK Light Modified champion at the track, said he would only be running part-time in 2015. Though that decision to run part-time is getting harder for Barry to stay with.

Barry won the 25-lap SK Light Modified feature Saturday at the New London-Waterford Speebdowl. It was the third victory in three events this year for Barry, who came back from a crash in his heat race Saturday.

“We’ll put it back together, see how bad it is, and keep coming back,” Barry said. “If we keep winning we’ve got to come back.

“Tonight, I just can’t thank my crew enough. We ripped the right front off in the heat race and got it back together.”

Paul Buzel of Trumbull was second and Rick Williams of Groton third.

Barry took the lead with three laps remaining after Buzel and Randy Churchill Jr. got together in a battle for the lead.

“I kind of had a feeling that Randy and Paul were going to get into it,” Barry said. “I guess I got lucky and I was in the right place at the right time. The last three laps were like a blur to me. I saw them come together and I saw my opening on the bottom and I took it and didn’t look back.”

Wayne Burroughs Jr. of Oakdale held off Ken Cassidy Jr. of Lisbon to win the 25-lap Mini Stock feature.

It was the second consecutive week that Burroughs has held off Cassidy, the division’s all-time winingest driver, for the win. It was the third win in the last four races for Burroughs.

“Any little slip up and he was going to take lead,” Burroughs said. “I was just doing everything I could to keep the thing on the bottom.”

Cassidy was second and Doug Curry of Groton.

Ryan Waterman of Danielson won the 25-lap Limited Sportsman feature.

Jason Chicolas of Sutton, Mass. was second and Monte Gibbs of Killingworth third.
