WATERFORD – Corey Barry came to the New London-Waterford Speedbowl Sunday looking to make a point.

Point made.

Barry, of Plainfield, bounced back from a disqualification in the last SK Light Modified event at the Speedbowl on Aug. 29 to win Sunday’s 25-lap feature for the division.

Barry, the 2014 SK Light Modified champion at Waterford, was stripped of his then sixth win of the season on Aug. 29 after an issue was found with a shock absorber on his in post-race inspection.

“It’s all I wanted to do, come out and prove that we really deserve this and that we’re not here to mess around,” Barry said after winning Sunday.

Nick Salva of Prospect was second and Paul Buzel of Trumbull third.

The disqualification had cost Barry his lead in the point standings, which he regained with victory on Sunday. He had come into Sunday’s event trailing Buzel in the standings by four points. He left Sunday up by three points in the standings with two events remaining this year.

Jason Palmer of Berlin used the outside lane to go to the front and win the 30-lap Late Model feature.

“It rolled in the middle [of the corners] good,” Palmer said. “This thing is just getting in. I think we read the track right. We were watching all the [Tour Type Modifieds] out here and seeing what kind of rubber they were putting down and how their cars were reacting. I think we made the right adjustments for the feature. I couldn’t be happier.”

Jeff Smith of Old Lyme was second and Keith Rocco of Wallingford third.

It was the fifth victory of the season for Palmer.

Palmer passed Smith for second in the outside lane on lap 23 and then went by then leader Derryck Anderson Jr. for the top spot on the outside on lap 24.

  1. A real nobody says

Rocco who? Fearn must be livid. Congrats to palmer and his crew they deserve it!!

  2. Larry Mondello says

That would be Rocco who had his first finish lower than second in a late model this year at Waterford? It is nice to see that some people can spell names correctly though.

  3. Nice job Corey and team 39. Way to bounce back from adversity and show everyone how to get the job done.
