For the second time in as many events, Midstate Motorsports driver Noah Korner won both INEX Legends races at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park. Korner was dominant throughout the day, turning the fastest laps in both qualifying sessions, and leading all laps in route to his sweep of the Midstate Site Development Legends Series races, presented by 860 Motorsports.
Korner led the 13-car field to green with second-place point man Jordan O’Brien to his outside. In the early going, it appeared as if O’Brien and 2015 World Champion Shaun Buffington may contend for the race lead, but neither proved to be a formidable challenger as the race went on. Korner crossed the line first on each of the twelve circuits. He was followed to the finish by Buffington, O’Brien, Taylor Martin, and teammate Glenn Korner.
860 Motorsports paid a $75 bonus to the driver who advanced the most positions during the 12-lap feature. The recipient for the first race of the day was Teddy Hodgdon. Noah Korner (Semi-Pro), Shaun Buffington (Pro), Patrick Dillon (Masters), and Jack Walker (Young Lion) – the highest finishing drivers in each of INEX’s classes – were the recipients of five gallons of 93 octane race fuel from New England Racing Fuel.
It was an all Korner front row for race two, as Noah qualified on the pole, and his brother Glenn laid down the second fastest lap. Noah immediately darted out to a sizable lead, while Glenn also was able to create some distance between himself and Taylor Martin. Meanwhile, Shaun Buffington was advancing through the field from his twelfth starting position. By lap five, he was already in control of the third position, and began to reel in Glenn Korner. He pulled even with Glenn, and passed him going into turn one on the final lap. At the end, though, Glenn was able to regain the second position through turns three and four, holding onto the bridesmaid position at the line. Buffington followed the Korner brothers in third while Jordan O’Brien and Taylor Martin rounded out the top five.
The recipient of the 860 Motorsports Hard Charger bonus was Buffington, who advanced nine positions. The New England Racing Fuel contingency recipients for race two were Shaun Buffington (Pro), Noah Korner (Semi-Pro), Jack Walker (Young Lion), and Patrick Dillon (Masters).
The next event for the Midstate Site Development Legends Series is Sunday, June 5, at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park.
