Speedway Cares Day At NHMS Expands To Benefit Seven Locations Around Loudon

New Hampshire Motor Speedway staff performed a day of community service sprucing up seven locations in the speedway’s hometown of Loudon, N.H.

LOUDON, N.H. – New Hampshire Motor Speedway staff members divided into four teams to tackle spring cleaning at seven different locations around Loudon for the second annual Speedway Cares Day on Wednesday.

The team spent a combined total of 176 hours raking and aerating lawns, cleaning mulch beds and spreading new mulch, sweeping parking lots and walkways, repairing fences and gates, cleaning a playground, prepping infield bases and runway areas, cleaning dug outs and a playground and more.

“Our team has been looking forward to this year’s Speedway Cares Day since the snow started falling this past winter,” said David McGrath, executive vice president and general manager for New Hampshire Motor Speedway. “We really enjoyed our first Speedway Cares Day last year, and it’s nice to get out of the office for the day, take in some fresh air and sunshine and grow closer as a team, all while helping the community we operate in every day.”

This year’s locations included Maxfield Public Library, the triangle at the intersection of South Village Road and N.H. Route 129, Charlie’s Barn and the old Town Office, the new Town Office, the Safety Building, the Recreation Field and Landry Memorial Field.

“It’s awesome that New Hampshire Motor Speedway allows their employees to come down and give back to the town,” said Russ Pearl, road agent for the town of Loudon. “All of the clean-up done on Speedway Cares Day is greatly appreciated.”

The day wrapped up with all forty-four NHMS staff members coming together to spruce up Robert L. Landry Sr. Memorial Field, which was dedicated to Landry when he passed away in 2005 to honor his longtime commitment to youth baseball in Loudon. Landry’s daughter and lifetime Loudon resident, Robbin, serves as the camping coordinator for New Hampshire Motor Speedway and jumped at the chance to join her fellow NHMS teammates to clean up the field where her dad spent countless hours teaching young local athletes the game of baseball. 

Speedway Cares Day has become an annual day of community service for the New Hampshire Motor Speedway team after a successful inaugural event in 2018, when they cleaned up the Recreation Field and prepped the baseball field and dugouts for the Loudon Youth Baseball Program.
