Super Sub: Woody Pitkat Grabs First Career Pro Four Modified Series Victory At Seekonk

SEEKONK, Mass. – The plan for Woody Pitkat Sunday was to go to Seekonk (Mass.) Speedway and celebrate victory in the track’s $5,000 to win SK Modified feature.

That didn’t happen, but it didn’t mean Pitkat didn’t get a chance to celebrate Sunday in Seekonk.

When a last minute opportunity arose to drive a car in the New England Pro Four Modified Series Pitkat took it and made the most of the chance.

Pitkat, of Stafford, went from fifth to first with a late move and won the 25-lap Pro Four Modified feature Sunday at Seekonk. It was the first time Pitkat had ever driven one of the car’s in competition.

Robin Berghman of East Providence, R.I.. was second.

When usual driver Joe Lemay couldn’t make it to the event, Pitkat stepped in in relief.

“Joe was supposed to drive the car, but he went to Little T with his son today,” Pitkat said. “They came here with the car and figured they could find somebody to drive it. We just put it together. I had to grab a wheel from Ryan Preece because the wheel was rubbing my belts.

“We weren’t that good, I just got lucky at the end. It was fun. We were fifth with two to go. The second place guy got in the back of the leader and everybody checked up and I went to the bottom off of [turn] two and just raced to the line. It was fun.”
