Double Down: Anthony Flannery Scores Second Straight SK Mod Win At New London-Waterford Speedbowl

Anthony Flannery celebrates victory in the SK Modified feature Saturday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl

It’s been a shockingly tight points battle at the top of the SK Modified division for the duration of the 2024 season at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.

But now it seems one driver is grabbing control.

Last week Anthony Flannery used his third win of the season to vault back into the SK Modified division points lead at the shoreline oval.

Saturday Flannery exacted more control on the situation.

Flannery, of East Hampton, scored his second consecutive victory in the Bill Greco/Terry Baribeault Memorial 43 Saturday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.

Paul Kusheba IV of Monroe was second and Eric Berndt of Cromwell third.

Flannery came into the night holding a three-point lead over Andrew Molleur at the top of the division’s standings. Molleur ended up ninth Saturday. Flannery left the track with a 13-point advantage over Molleur in the standings. Three-time defending division champion Todd Owen, who finished fourth Saturday, is third in the standings, 19 points off the lead. Berndt is fourth, 23 points behind Flannery.

Nickolas Hovey of Chaplin scored his sixth victory in 11 starts in the 25-lap SK Light Modified feature.

Zack Sangermano of Plainfield was second and Evan Bourgeois of East Haddam was third.

Brody Monahan of Waterford was victorious in the 30-lap Late Model feature.

Doug Curry of Groton was second and Joe LeMay of North Smithfield, R.I. third.

Norm Root III of Old Saybrook got his sixth win of the year in the 25-lap Street Stock feature.

Ed Gertsch Jr. of East Haven was second and Al Stone III of Durham third.

Chris Garside of Groton topped the 25-lap Mini Stock feature.

Charles Canfield of East Haven was second and David Dorr of Gales Ferry third.

Tyler Chapman of Mystic got his ninth win in 15 starts in the 25-lap Truck Series feature.

Charles Beal of Ledyard was second and Brad Strickland of Uncasville third.

Comments

  1. That SK race was a disaster one driver that was leading the race got screwed out of the lead on a restart and then the leaders get blatantly taken out by a stinking lap car who had no reason to be on the track because he had no spotter really that was a joke. Who is running the circus over there anyway?

  2. What a GREAT night of racing! It was chilly, hoodie weather, classic bowl racing weather. Great crowd in the stands, great side by side racing all day, every division, Passing, crossovers, and Drama. the cooler weather always increases the speeds, and makes for great battles.

  3. Reality Check says

Hey longtimefan does the track pay you to comment on the speedbowl writeup on this website every week? Every story about the bowl you come on here and say it was a great crowd and great racing. The crowd sucked tonight like it does most weeks and the racing sucked. If that place wants to ever be something again they need to fire every official they have and start from scratch. Total clown show.
