On Friday it was announced that the 75th Annual Race of Champions Modified event would take place as part of the Sunoco World Series weekend at Thompson Speedway in 2025.
It’s marks a historic marriage of one of the oldest short tracks in the country hosting the long running short track event in the country.
Today we talked with the Race of Champions Modified Series owner and operator Joe Skotnicki about the history of the event, how it all came together for the event to land at Thompson and more.

It would be great if somehow tri track, and MRS could involve/weave their series points into this race and bring in even more cars.
Bill, Tritrack already has two events there next year and their events are pretty successful as is. Tritrack still had the best car counts despite a drop in all the Mod counts. The MRS has been tagging up with the racing guys and the Northeast Classic at NHMS.
The void left by the decline of the NWMT creates the opportunity for RoC to try running outside their normal region. The NWMT wants to neglect tracks like Stafford and Thompson, the RoC can step in.
@darealgoodfella NASCAR is running 3 modified races at Thompson next year so that’s hardly neglect. They also apparently tried to get back in at Stafford but Stafford went with MMTTS. I think what’s happening with the new ROC and MMTTS races is the guys running the Thompson oval know they need the big regional series to make their events attractive to teams. Their open shows aren’t enough anymore.
