STAFFORD – It was a night of doubley notable career achievements Friday at Stafford Speedway for Aaron Plemons.
Plemons held on through a green-white-checkered finish to win the 20-lap Street Stock feature at Stafford.
It was the first career victory at Stafford for Plemons, of Uncasville. It also completed a sweep of victories at all three Connecticut short tracks in 2025 for Plemons.
Plemons won a Street Stock feature at Thompson Speedway on April 16 and topped the Street Stock feature at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl on May 10.
“This is just awesome,” Plemons said. “I think we’re five or six weeks into the season and my team, we’ve won at all three [Connecticut short tracks] already. It says a lot about [my team] and all the hard work they put in. Racing three tracks is always tough. To get a win at all three of them and I don’t even think we’re … seven weeks into the season, it’s pretty cool.”
Plemons finished fifth in the Street Stock standings at Stafford in 2023 and was the top finishing rookie. He didn’t race at Stafford last year.
“To finally get one at Stafford, I came close so many times,” Plemons said. “In 2023 I came here, overdrove some, lost a race by myself, it feels so good to finally get something here.”
Jeff Asselin of Granby, Mass. was second and Tyler Trott of East Hartford third.
With Plemons out front and Brandon Warren in second, caution flew on lap six when Brent Gleason made contact with Johnny Walker in turn one to send Walker spinning in a battle for 10th place.
Plemons held on out front on the lap six restart with Bill Cote moving past Warren for second place.
Gleason headed to pit road not long after with a left front flat. Gleason, who was making his sixth start at the track, criticized track rules for the division.
“Was one of those nights,” Gleason said. “It’s a rule for Stafford to put people who are considered rookies like me in the back even though I’m not a rookie and I didn’t agree with it before. That’s OK, that’s just the rules, I’ve got to abide by it. But they put me back with all the squirrels. It was just carnage everywhere and I just got run over by about four cars so it shouldn’t have happened in the first place.”
With Plemons holding on out front, caution flew once again on lap 13 for a stopped car. On the restart, third place Warren made contact with Cote in turn three, sending him spinning and collecting two more cars.
The caution and penalty moved Jeff Asselin to second for the restart alongside of Plemons.
Plemons continued to hold on strong out front on the restart. Plemons took the white flag, but a spinning car brought out the caution on the final lap to set up a green-white-checkered finish. Asselin tried to challenge Plemons on the final restart, but Plemons was able to get away on the the ride to the checkered flag.
