THOMPSON – Ron Silk has had complete ownership of victory lane at Thompson Speedway in 2025 when it comes to Tour Type Modified events.

Silk won the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series Propane Plus Heating & Cooling 75 on March 29, the NASCAR Modified Tour Icebreaker 150 on April 16 and the Monaco Modified RaceChoice.com 75 on May 14.

On Wednesday Jon McKennedy stole away some of that victory lane real estate from Silk.

McKennedy, of Chelmsford, Mass., used a late move to pass a dominant Mike Christopher Jr. and went on to win the Thompson Outlaw Modified Nutmeg State 50 presented by Twisted Tea Wednesday at Thompson Speedway.

McKennedy spent much of the event in third watching Christopher and Silk in front of him. He went by Silk for second place on lap 38 and then passed Christopher for the lead on lap 43. Christopher had led every lap of the event up to that point.

“It was good hard racing,” McKennedy said. “A little bit of rubbing, but nothing crazy. We were just a little a bit tight there at the beginning. I could see those guys in front of me freeing up a little bit. It just all worked out. We had a really good day. We were one of the faster cars. We worked hard in practice. …. It just worked out great.”

Christopher, of Wolcott, hung on for second place.

“It seemed like I was pretty good on entry [into the corners] compared to [McKennedy] but he just had us on exit,” Christopher said. “But for showing up here not really on schedule with Jimmy Paige’s team, it was a pretty good run.”

Silk, of Norwalk, was third.

“It just got a little bit too loose,” Silk said. “It was fun racing with these guys. Congratulations to Jon and his team. Had fun trying to work over [Christopher] for a little while there. Just came up short, but still a good effort.”

Christopher got a run under Silk at the front through turns one and two to move to the lead on lap one. Behind them McKennedy went by Ronnie Williams to third on the opening lap.

By lap 10 the top four of Christopher, Silk, McKennedy and Williams had checked out from fifth place Tyler Barry.

Silk took a peek under Christopher into turn three on lap 13, but backed out of the move through the corner. Silk ducked under Christopher again on lap 15 in turn one, but backed out once again.

At the halfway mark Christopher continued to control at the front, with Silk stalking on his bumper and McKennedy staying in the lead pack in third. Williams had fallen back to about a second and a half off the lead in fourth.

Silk took a look again under Christopher into turn three on lap 28, but couldn’t find room to make a challenge work.

On lap 33 Christopher, Silk and McKennedy were running nose-to-tail at the front of the pack. On lap 34 McKennedy put a big diving move on Silk into turn one. The pair went side-by-side down the backstretch before Silk was able to get control back of second place off of turn four.

After trying for multiple laps to find a lane by Silk, McKennedy finally found the way to make a move work on lap 38, moving to second place.

On lap 43 McKennedy got under Christopher into turn three. Christopher attempted to cross McKennedy over off of turn four, but McKennedy fought off the move down the frontstretch to take control.

Christopher was able to close on McKennedy through the corners on the final three laps, but couldn’t mount a challenge to get back to the lead.
