STAFFORD – Peter Bennett has been looking for his first SK Light Modified victory at Stafford Speedway since 2020.

On Wednesday he was finally crowned a winner at the historic venue, quite literally.

Bennett scored his first career victory in the 40-lap SK Light Modified King of the Crate Wednesday at Stafford.

Bennett, of Windsor, was making his 55th career start in the division Wednesday. Bennett went by Ron Midford for the lead on lap seven and never trailed again.

“This is what it’s all about right?” Bennett said. “I work so hard and I’ve got a crew behind me that works so hard for me as well. I gave it everything I had for 40 laps. Those last 10 laps, I don’t even know if I took a breath. I was just focusing so hard. I’ve wanted this so bad for so long. We’ve been so close and we finally put a full race together and I’m just so stoked right now.”

Nickolas Hovey of Chaplin was second and Sami Anderson of Wolcott was third.

“If we could have got through the field a little bit better I would have been great, or just maybe a little bit later caution there,” Hovey said.

Joey Ferrigno controlled the pace from the pole on the opening lap.

Caution flew on lap two for the stopped car of Stephen Kalogiannis on the frontstretch infield.

Midford got by Ferrigno on the outside following the lap two restart to take over the lead. Bennett followed to second on lap four.

Bennett went under Midford into turn three on lap seven to take over the lead.

The second caution flew on lap eight for a hard wreck on the backstretch involving Chris Matthews and Sophya Papp.

Bennett held the lead on the restart with Anderson getting by Ferrigno for third.

With Bennett and Midford checked out from third place Anderson, the third caution flew on lap 17 for a turn two issue involving Jason Chapman and Nick Anglace.

Bennett continued to control over Midford on the lap 17 restart. The action was short lived, with the caution coming back out on lap 22 for a multi-car wreck in turn two.

On the lap 22 restart a mid-pack wreck involving about 10 cars brought the caution right back out.

On the second attempt at a lap 22 restart Midford challenged Bennett at the front with Amanda West going from fifth to third by Anderson.

On lap 23 a contact between Anderson and West in turn two sent West spinning, collecting seven more cars in the melee.

Bennett controlled on the restart with Midford and Anderson challenging. Midford got under Bennett in turn one on lap 24. Contact between Bennett and Midford got Bennett sideways in turn two. Bennett saved the car from the slide as Midford got passed for second by Anderson.

On lap 29 Hovey went by Midford for third with Robert Bloxsom III following to fourth.

Bennett held a half second lead over Anderson on lap 33 with Hovey stalking all over Anderson in third.

On lap 37 Hovey got a run off of turn two and completed the pass for second by Anderson through turns three and four.
