STAFFORD – What’s better than getting consecutive wins?
Getting consecutive wins when the second one is one of the division’s marquee events for the season.
Nick Anglace followed up a victory in the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature on May 15 at Stafford by driving away from Chris Matthews over the closing laps to win the 40-lap Monaco Ford Double Down SK Light feature on Friday at Stafford.
It was the third victory of the season for Anglace, of Seymour, who also won on April 25.
“I get emotional trying to talk about it,” Anglace said. “It’s just, there was a time not too long ago, like a year and a half ago or so, we weren’t winning these things, and now we’re rolling them back to back. … I’ve always wanted to get back-to-back wins. I’ve always wanted that.”
Chris Matthews of Stafford was second for the third consecutive week and Peter Bennett of Windsor third.
Matthews, the division’s all-time winningest driver, has a victory and four second place finishes in five starts this year. He rallied from being involved in an early wreck on Friday.
“That was a rough night,” Matthews said. “I can’t even believe I made it back to battle with Nick. I figured we were done in that wreck. Fortunately it kept going. I don’t know how it held up, but it did. The car was actually still rolling pretty well. We just didn’t have enough to close the deal at the end. It was a little beat up for that.”
Said Bennett: “It’s a big night for us and it’s always a great night when it ends in tech like this. It was a pretty hectic race, just trying to keep the car clean out there. There was a couple of close calls along the way, but once we got going the second half of the race, just kind of maintained our position in third.”
