STAFFORD – It’s fair to see when it comes to putting together a list of SK Light Modified drivers at Stafford Speedway that bring the drama, Nick Anglace would be one high on that list.

And Friday night the Seymour driver was once again showing why he’s considered such a showman.

After a nearly race long battle at the front, Anglace got under Peter Bennett for the lead through turns three and four on the final circuit and won the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature Friday at Stafford.

It was the fourth victory of the season for Anglace.

“All day we had a pretty fast car, there was a lot of stupid things that weren’t really going to cost us any speed, but mechanically, I really have a certain feel for the car I want to have,” Anglace said. “The steering ratio was a little off so I’m trying to find things to counteract that. It’s something so incredibly small and stupid but we stressed over that and came up with a good substitute I guess. But we were fast pretty much all day and just didn’t overthink it and that’s kind of what it is.

“It kind of sucks, I wish the race was a little bit better because turn one the apron was a little wet, so every time you hit it you just lose the nose. I wasn’t trying to wreck anybody, it’s going to be a good points night so I didn’t want to take anybody out in the process, but it was a really good day and when they give me the car to get the job done it’s my job to get the job done so it just seemed to work out today.”

Bennett, of Windsor, ended up second and Tyler Barry of Griswold was third.

“No issue with the last lap move,” Bennett said. “I think Nick and I had a great race. We were door to door the whole race and really didn’t even touch each other that whole night I think. So credit to Nick. I had a lot of fun out there. And overall the car was great today. Unloaded fast. Just missed the set up just a little bit there at the end. The car was a little bit too tight. But overall I think we had a really good night.”

Said Barry: “I mean we’ve been trying some stuff set up wise the past couple weeks, and it’s working pretty good, just gotta fine tune it a little bit more, figure out what our feature adjustments gotta be. But the race went pretty good, we got through the pack pretty good starting 10th. So I mean, the third place finish, that’s not too bad.”

Chris Meyer took the lead from Chris Buffone with six laps remaining and went on to win the 30-lap Late Model feature.

It was the second victory of the season for Meyer, of North Franklin.

Wayne Coury Jr. dominated the early stages of the event before pulling out of the lead with mechanical issues with 13 laps remaining, putting Buffone out front.

Meyer got under Buffone going into turn three with six laps left. There was contact between the two through turn three and the pair came off the corner side-by-side to the start/finish line. Meyer took control into turn one with Kevin Gambacorta following him to second.

Gambacorta, of Ellington, would end up second and Buffone, of Belchertown, Mass., third.

“I’ve said a couple times that [Buffone] and I are gonna be doing this for many years together and racing like that for wins and you don’t make a lot of mistakes and he slipped up a little in turns one and two,” Meyer said. “I knew I had one shot, it’s only gonna be one shot to make a move on him, and I was able to get in there and make the move. So really happy with the car and really happy with the outcome of the day.”

Buffone was not happy with the way Meyer took the lead.

“We had a good car all night and it really showed,” Buffone said. “We were quick in … practice, quick in the heat race. I just feel bad for [Coury’s team]. They had the best car. That idiot over there, [Meyer], don’t deserve nothing so whatever. He just races everybody like, apparently he doesn’t want to be raced like that.”
