STAFFORD – As one of the most accomplished Street Stock racers in the region over the last decade, Ryan Waterman’s racing resume is overflowing with highlight accomplishments.

But Friday night at Stafford Speedway the Danielson driver used the marquee event for his division to check off a new accolade for his career.

Waterman went by PJ Evans for the lead on lap 12 restart and then checked out to win the Midstate Site Development Street Stock Firecracker 30 Friday at Stafford Speedway.

It was the third consecutive victory for Waterman, who has won five the division’s seven events this season.

“Been racing 14 years, never won three in a row,” Waterman said. “Finally did it. … Everybody always wants to win the big races so it’s pretty special.

Waterman, the 2023 Street Stock champion at Stafford, has finished fourth in the two races he hasn’t won in the division this year. He now holds a 32-point lead over second place Jason Raymond in the division standings.

“We just go home and work hard on it to be better,” Waterman said. “No matter how good you are you can always be better. It shows because we find something every week.”

Evans, of Uncasville, was second and Brent Gleason of Griswold third.

“I’m so glad we got a second,” Evans said. “I wasn’t expecting it. We’ve changed so much on this car throughout the season. We finally got it good. Thank god. I can’t thank my dad enough.”

Said Gleason: “It was quite the eventful race. Right at the end there I got put three-wide on the outside, had to come back around. Had to restart second, which stinks because the top is just terrible. … Got lucky a lot. I think I’ll take third and keep working on it.”
