If it’s a big event you want to see in Connecticut short track racing this weekend, that’s all you’re going to get.

The holiday weekend will feature major events this weekend at both Stafford Motor Speedway and the Waterford Speedbowl.

Stafford will come to life for the Fourth of July with the running of the inaugural SK 5K.

And at Waterford Speedbowl, tradition continues with the running of the annual Mid-Season 300 event.

What: NASCAR Whelen All-American Series event

Where: Stafford Motor Speedway

When: Friday

Schedule: NAPA Auto Parts SK 5K (length to be determined by fan vote and announced Friday), 30-lap Late Model, 20-lap SK Light Modified, 20-lap Limited Late Model, 20-lap Legends and 15-lap DARE Stock. Grandstands open: 4:15 p.m.; Qualifying: 6 p.m. Features: Immediately following qualifying.
More: The seventh event of the season at Stafford Motor Speedway. … The track’s inaugural running of the SK 5K. The distance of the event will be determined by fan voting online and announced minutes before the start of the event. Distance possibilities include 40 laps, 50 laps, 60 laps, 76 laps, 80 laps or 100 laps. … The event will pay more than a $27,000 purse, with $5,000 being paid to the winner. … Online fan voting will also determine the qualifying procedure, tire allotments and how the starting field will be set. … Last week, Ted Christopher held off Ryan Preece in a spirited battle at the front to record his 101st career SK Modified victory at Stafford. … Preece won the first three SK Modified events of the season at Stafford. Rookie Chase Dowling is the only other winner in the division this season. … Preece holds a 22-point lead over second place Christopher in the division’s standings. Keith Rocco is third in the standings, 36 points behind. Woody Pitkat is fourth, 40 points off the lead. … JJ Hill got his first victory of the season in the Late Model feature last week. … Jim Peterson, Adam Gray, Tom Fearn and Jay Stuart are the other winners in the division this season. … Stuart, who has finished in the top-five in all five events this season, holds a 28-point lead over second place Gray in the standings. Schedule: 100-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified, 50-lap Late Model, 50-lap Street Stock, 50-lap Mini Stock, 25-lap SK Light Modified and 25-lap Legends. Grandstands open: 2 p.m.; Qualifying: 4 p.m.; Features: Approximately 6:30 p.m.

More: The 13th event of the season at the shoreline oval. … Last week, Keith Rocco won the SK Modified feature for his sixth victory in 12 division starts this year. Rocco also has five seconds and a third place in the division this year. … Other winners this year include Ed Puleo, Tyler Chadwick, Joey Gada, Kyle James and Craig Lutz. … Rocco has built a massive lead over the field in the standings, holding a 119-point advantage over second place Lutz. Ed Puleo is third in the standings, 156 points off the lead. … Vin Esposito got his second victory of the season in the Late Model feature last week. Rocco (six wins), Bruce Thomas Jr. (two wins), Jason Palmer (two wins) are the other winners in the division this year. … Rocco crashed in the event and did not finish. It marked the first time in 24 events between the SK Modified and Late Model divisions at Waterford this year, that Rocco did not finish in the top-three. … Rocco saw his poins lead in the division go from 44 points last week to 22 points this week over Thomas.
