NASCAR announced Wednesday that Rocco, of Wallingford, has been named the 2012 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Rookie of the Year.

Rocco had five top-10’s over eight starts this season with a season best third place in the Tech-Net Spring Sizzler at Stafford Motor Speedway on April 29.

Rocco missed six of the 14 events this year after sustaining a dislocated left wrist in practice for an SK Modified race on July 29 at Thompson International Speedway. He was ninth in the Modified Tour point standings after six events before the injury knocked him out of competition.

Rocco also competes full-time in an SK Modified at Thompson, Stafford and the Waterford Speedbowl and finished second in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national short track standings. Rocco was the Whelen All-American Series national champion in 2010.
