NASCAR on Tuesday announced that Whelen Southern Modified Tour series director Jimmy Wilson has been named as the new series director for the Whelen Modified Tour.

Wilson takes over the position vacated by Chad Little when he was named series director for the Camping World Truck Series in December.

The 37-year old Wilson, an Orlando, Fla. native, served two years as director of the Southern Modified Tour. He has nearly 20 years of experience as a racing official.

Juston Ellis will replace Wilson as the new Southern Whelen Modified Tour series director.

“We are very pleased to appoint Jimmy and Juston to their leadership positions with the NASCAR Whelen Modified and Whelen Southern Modified Tours,” NASCAR Tour Series Director Brad Moran said in a release. “Jimmy will bring a wealth of experience to NASCAR’s oldest series, and it will be a great opportunity for Juston, who has done a great job with NASCAR since coming on as the Whelen Southern Modified Tour’s technical director.”

The Whelen Modified Tour open its 14-race 2013 season April 14 at Thompson International Speedway.
