“Since we went back racing the Tour full-time, we talked a lot about what we thought our weaknesses were,” Yuhas said in a release from KLM Motorsports. “We all agreed that we needed a more experienced crew chief.”

Chase, of Mansfield, fielded perennially contending rides in the Modified Tour for drivers such at Rick Fuller, Steve Park, John Blewett III and Doug Coby. Chase won the 1993 Modified Tour title with Fuller. Chase shut down his race team in 2008.

“I had conversations with Curt years ago. I admired him a lot,” Yuhas said. “His name came up quite a few times over the last year or so. But we weren’t sure he would even want to get back into racing.”

Yuhas approached Chase last year about taking over the role of crew chief with his team. Chase’s son Eric will also work with the team.

“After meeting with the team, we all agreed it would be a great fit,” team owner Mike Murphy said. “We approach racing as a family affair and that is important to us. Curt and his family will make a great addition to our family.

Said Chase: “I’m glad to be back involved. I hope that I can have a positive impact on the team. I’m really looking forward to getting the season started and to accomplishing great things with Ron, Murph, Steve and the entire team.”

Yuhas had two top-five finishes and five top-10’s in 14 starts last year on the Modified Tour and finished 10th in the standings.
