WATERFORD – It was one down and  four to go briefly in the Drive for Five weekend at the Waterford Speedbowl for Keith Rocco.

Rocco, of Wallingford, began his mission to win five features in two days at the Budweiser Blastoff this weekend with a victory in the 25-lap NEMA Lite feature Saturday at Waterford.

Rocco passed Randy Cabral for the lead on lap 23 and drove away from there.

“First feature of 2013 for us, it’s great to be back,” Rocco said. “I can’t thank [team owner] Frank Manafort enough. FMR Racing, the whole crew, they all worked real hard on this car. This thing was absolutely awesome tonight. It took a little while for it to come in, but once it came in it was perfect. You couldn’t ask for anything better.”

Rocco is also competing in Saturday’s Legends feature and Sunday’s Valenti Modified Racing Series feature, NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature and Late Model feature at Waterford.

Cabral, of Plymouth, Mass., held on for second.

“He was bumping into me and banging into me,” Cabral said. “I’m going to come up with all kind of excuses. I’m joking, I’m joking. Honestly, it was a great race. Keith did a great job. He just beat me.”

Carl Mederios of Westport, Mass. was third.

Rocco’s mission for five victories ended later Saturday evening in the 20-lap Legends feature with a fifth place finish.

Dana DiMatteo of Farmington won the Legends feature.

Randy Churchill Jr. of Oakdale held off the charges Troy Talman to win the 25-lap SK Light Modified feature. Talman, of Oxford, Mass., held on for second. Corey Barry of Plainfield was third.
