On Tap: Packed Finale Weekend Ready To Roll At The Waterford Speedbowl

April 6. Seems like so long ago.

Speedbowl Ad Finale A 300That was the day Blastoff weekend began at the Waterford Speedbowl, thus kicking off the 2013 short track racing season in Connecticut.

And 23 events later, the sun will set on that 2013 season at the Waterford Speedbowl this weekend.

It’s Finale Weekend at the Speedbowl and there’s not shortage of action for fans looking for two full days of racing events.

The competition begin Saturday with qualifying for 13 divisions and features from seven of those divisions. The action carries over to Sunday with features for six divisions.

Friday: Practice for all divisions. Grandstands closed.
Saturday: Qualifying for all divisions; Features: 25-lap SK Light Modified, 25-lap NEMA Lite, 25-lap New England Truck Series, 20-lap Bandolero, 25-lap Super X-Car, 25-lap X-Car and 25-lap Outlaw Stock. Qualifying begins: 1:30 p.m.
Sunday: 50-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified, 50-lap Late Model, 50-lap Street Stock, 50-lap Mini Stock, 25-lap Legends and 25-lap NEMA Midgets. Pit party begins: 9:30 a.m. Features begin: noon.
More: The 24th and final event of the season at the shoreline oval. … Championships have been clinched in the SK Modified, Late Model, Street Stock and Mini Stock divisions. … Randy Churchill has a nearly insurmountable 43-point lead over Corey Barry in the chase for the SK Light Modified championship at the track. The most points a driver can accumulate in a single race is 55. … Last week, Keith Rocco ran to his ninth SK Modified feature win of the season and in the process clinched the division’s championship for 2013. Rocco, Tyler Chadwick and Kyle James are the only multi-time winners this year in the SK Modified division. Chadwick has four victories, James has three victories. Other winners this year include Todd Ceravolo, Frank Mucciacciaro, Diego Monahan Jeff Rocco, Joey Gada, Nichole Morgillo and Rob Janovic Jr. … Keith Rocco won for the 11th time this season in the Late Model division last week. He had clinched the division’s championship on Sept. 21. … Keith Rocco is chasing history in the category of season total for victories at Waterford. He has 22 wins overall at the track this year. Don Collins set the track’s record for wins in a season with 23 in 1960. Rocco expects to run in the SK Modified, the Late Model, the NEMA Lite and the Legends features at the Finale event.
