Budweiser Blastoff Weekend At Waterford Speedbowl Postponed To April 12-13

With winter’s grip still hanging on tight and a seemingly ever worsening weekend weather forecast, Waterford Speedbowl officials made the decision Thursday to delay blasting off the 2014 season.

Blastoff Weekend Waterford New 300Speedbowl officials announced this afternoon that the track’s Budweiser Blastoff season opening event scheduled for Saturday and Sunday has been postponed to April 12-13.

As of Thursday evening, the open practice at Waterford scheduled for Friday remained scheduled as planned.

“We regret having to move Blastoff Weekend” track owner Terry Eames said in a release. “We were prepared to open the race season this weekend, however it appears Mother Nature just does not want to cooperate.  Soaking rains are forecast on and off throughout the weekend. We still plan to have a really great event for race fans, just a couple weeks later.”

The Speedbowl will open their regular weekly Saturday night Whelen All-American Series events as scheduled on April 5.

The Blastoff schedule for the April 12-13 weekend will remain the same as was scheduled for the original event dates. Saturday’s schedule at the track will include qualifying for all divisions and seven feature events. The Sunday April 13 racing card features a 100-lap Valenti Modified Racing Series event, a 64-lap SK Modified feature, a 50-lap Late Model feature, 30-lap Street Stock and Mini Stock features and a 25-lap feature for the Northeastern Midget Association.

  1. I’m happy to hear this. Mix with rain and cold temperature it would have been a miserable weekend. We can only hope that April 12th and 13th is two fine sunny days.

  2. Good move – nothing worse than sitting in the stands wet and cold early in the season.

  3. Should be interesting if the ice breaker at Thompson gets postponed. Where will the tour guys like Pennick, Coby, etc race Waterford or Thompson
