Looking down the list of tracks on the K&N Pro Series East schedule for 2014, there wasn’t all that much familiar to Hattori Racing Enterprises driver Dave Garbo Jr.

But there was one track the Stonington teen could look to as a place where he had some positive personal notes to turn to about getting around.

The K&N Pro Series East visits Richmond International Raceway Friday for the Blue Ox 100.

The Virginia track is the only one on the K&N Pro Series East schedule that Garbo has previous experience running.

Last year Garbo competed in the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown charity event, which was held at Richmond.

Garbo had many heads turning when he finished sixth event, beat all but two of the dozen NASCAR Sprint Cup Series regulars in the field.

“It’s exciting to get back to Richmond,” Garbo said. “It’s the only track on the K&N circuit where I have previous experience, so that brings some confidence. We had a really good result here last year running against the Cup guys, so hopefully we can carry that into this weekend.”

Garbo, a rookie in the K&N Pro Series East, is 15th in the series standings after four events this year. His best finish is a seventh place at Bristol (Tenn) Motor Speedway on March 15. He was 20th in the last series event at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Greenville, S.C. on March 22.

He used the long break to get in some competition behind the wheel of a Late Model weekly at Southern National Motorsports Park in Lucama, N.C.

“We also just got a win two weeks ago in the Late Model, so I feel like we have good momentum to bring to [Richmond],” Garbo said.
