THOMPSON – He’s the reigning Granite State Pro Stock Series champion, though not defending champion.

Mike O’Sullivan, the 2013 Granite State Pro Stock Series champion has already announced that he will run a part-time schedule in 2014.

The singular goal is wins this year and that was exactly the goal reached by the Springfield, Mass. driver Sunday at Thompson Speedway.

O’Sullivan, a former track champion at Thompson, won the 50-lap Granite State Pro Stock Series season opening feature at Icebreaker 2014.

Larry Gelinas of Buxton, Me. was second and Jeff Connors of Ellington third.

O’Sullivan inherited the lead on lap 20 when Wayne Helliwell Jr. suffered a flat tire while leading.

“I think we had a good car,” O’Sullivan said. “No doubt about it, Jeff Connors is a tough customer. He’s got a lot of laps here. Racing Wayne Helliwell up front was cool.

“When you come here every time it’s big boy racing. You’ve got to step it up a little bit. It’s not just weekly racing any more. I’m real proud of our effort. We put a lot of effort into this winter trying to make the car a little better. Even though we came away with a championship last year, I thought we needed be better and everybody bought in. I’m glad we did.”

Gelinas passed Connors for second place on lap 48.
