Toby Wells Rallies For Northeast Mini Stock Tour Victory At Stafford Speedway

Northeast Mini Stock Tour Box LogoSTAFFORD – Toby Wells wasn’t short with the dramatics for fans at Stafford Motor Speedway Sunday at the NAPA Spring Sizzler.

What looked like an easy run to victory got quite interesting when Wells, of Dublin, N.H., lost the lead following a late restart, but wells rallied back to win the 25-lap Northeast Mini Stock feature at Stafford Speedway.

Shawn Swallow of Stark, N.H. was second and Nick Anderson of Oxford, Mass. third.

“We’ve been here since 8 [a.m. Saturday] trying to get this in,” Wells said. “Just to force through Mother Nature and make this happen, I’ve got to thank everybody at Stafford Motor Speedway.”

It was the second Northeast Mini Stock Tour event at Stafford Speedway. The series was also featured on the 2013 Sizzler schedule.

Wells saw a big lead disappear when the caution flew on lap 20. Following the restart, Swallow briefly took the lead from Wells on lap 21 before Wells powered back to regain the lead on the backstretch.

“With the caution coming out with six [laps] to go, everything tightened up,” Well said. “I was a little worried. I hit some water coming into turn three after the [restart]. I was going backwards. But we drove back around [Swallow] and reclaimed the lead.”

The event was the first for the Thirty Racewear Connecticut Triple Crown Series, which also includes the events later this season for the series at Thompson Speedway and the Waterford Speedbowl.
