THOMPSON – It seems the getting to know you phase for Woody Pitkat and the Buzz Chew Racing NASCAR Modified Tour team is going well.
Pitkat, of Stafford, led the way in practice Saturday afternoon in preparation for Sunday’s NASCAR Modified Tour Icebreaker 150 at Thompson Speedway.
Pitkat toured the .625-mile Thompson oval with a fast lap of 18.604 seconds (120.942 mph) during practice.
Pitkat is in his first season competing for Buzz Chew Racing.
Bobby Santos III was second during the practice session with a fast lap of 18.706 seconds (120.282 mph).
Donny Lia (18.767 seconds, 119.891 mph), Rowan Pennink (18.778 seconds, 119.821 mph) and Justin Bonsignore (18.793 seconds, 119.725 mph) rounded out the top five.
Timmy Solomito, Keith Rocco, Doug Coby, Matt Hirschman and Mike Stefanik made up sixth through tenth respectively.
Reigning NASCAR Modified Tour champion Ryan Preece was 16th of the 27 cars on track during the practice session. Rookie Tommy Barrett Jr. did not complete a lap before crashing in turn one.
