Anthony Anders Tops Whelen All-American Series National Standings; Rocco Holds Tight At 8th

Anthony Anders continues his reign atop the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national standings once again this week.

The Easley, S.C. Late Model driver is lapping the field as of now with 611 points.

The 43-year old Anders has 11 wins, 18 top-five’s and 19 top-10’s in 20 starts this year between Greenville (S.C.) Pickens Speedway, Anderson (S.C.) Motor Speedway, Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Speedway and Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway.

Under the point structure for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, a race winner receives two points for every car in the event up to 18 cars. Second place receives two fewer points and so on through the field. Three bonus points will be awarded to a race winner with a single-digit starting position and five bonus points will be awarded to a race winner with a double-digit starting position.

Dillon Bassett, a 16-year old from Winston-Salem, N.C. in his first full-time year competing in NASCAR sanctioned events, is a distant second in points with 402 points.

Bassett has four victories and 13 top-five’s in 13 starts at Greenville Pickens, Hickory, Caraway Speedway in Sophia, N.C. and East Carolina Motor Speedway in Robersonville, N.C.

Two-time defending national champion Lee Pulliam of Semora, N.C. is third with 388 points. Pulliam has eight victories and 10-top five’s in 12 starts this year between South Boston (Va.) Speedway, Southern National Motorsports Park in Kenly, N.C. and Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va.

Keith Rocco the 2010 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series champion, who has finished in the top-four of the national standings for the last seven years, is eighth.

The Wallingford driver who competes full-time in the SK Modified divisions at the Waterford Speedbowl, Stafford Motor Speedway and Thompson Speedway, has three victories, eight top-five’s and nine top-10’s over nine starts this year for 301 points.

Ryan Preece of Berlin, who competes full-time in the SK Modified divisions at Stafford and Thompson, part-time at Waterford and part-time in the Tour Type Modified division at Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway, is 13th nationally with 266 points for two victories, seven top-five’s and nine top-10’s in nine starts this year.
