STAFFORD – Last year, in the season finale at Stafford Motor Speedway, Late Model driver Adam Gray saw a 16-race podium streak come to an end.
Sunday at Stafford Gray returned to the podium with a second place finish in the division’s season opening NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler.
Friday Gray, of Belchertown, Mass., officially began a new podium streak, in style.
Gray, the reigning division champion, ran away with victory in the 30-lap Late Model feature Friday at Stafford.
Tom Fearn of East Longmeadow, Mass. was second and Cory Casagrande of Stafford third.
“We got lucky on a couple of them restarts there to put us in a right position,” Gray said.
On lap three restart, Casagrande went by JJ Hill for the lead with Gray following him to second place. Two laps later Gray went under Casagrande for the lead, with Fearn following to second.
“It’s a little bit better than our Sizzler performance,” Fearn said. “… We’ll be up here again, maybe next week one spot up.”
Said Casagrande: “We had an OK car tonight. We were pretty tight during the race. I kind of let these guys run away and I had to fend of Jay [Stuart] and Jim [Peterson] for a little bit. It was fun out there.”
