On Tap Rics 286 BoxIt’s all eyes on the Late Model divisions across the state this weekend.

At Stafford Motor Speedway the Late Model division will run its Xtra Mart Xtra D 60-lap event.

At Waterford, the attention will be about the driver looking to grab another piece of the Waterford Speedbowl record book.

Last week Keith Rocco matched Mike Daigneault as the only drivers to win four consecutive Late Model events to open a season at Waterford. Daigneault accomplished the feat in 1971.

When: Friday

Schedule: 40-lap SK Modified, 60-lap Late Model, 20-lap SK Light Modified, 20-lap Limited Late Model, 15-lap DARE Stock and 20-lap Legends. Grandstands open: 5:15 p.m.; Qualifying: 6:15 p.m.; Features: Immediately following qualifying.

More: The third event of the season at Stafford Motor Speedway. … Ryan Preece won for the second consecutive event in the SK Modified division last week. Preece, the 2011 SK Modified champion at Stafford had a division-high eight victories at the track in 2013, but came up two points short of a championship. … After only two events, Preece is already pulling away from the field in the standings, with a 12-point lead over second place Ted Christopher. Doug Coby is third in the standings, 16 points behind. Four drivers, Keith Rocco, Matt Galko, Todd Owen and Dan Avery, are tied for fourth, 24 points behind Preece. … The Late Model division takes center stage at Stafford this week with the running of the Xtra Mart Xtra D 60-lap event. … Last week, reigning division champion Adam Gray picked up his first victory of the season in the Late Model division. He was second in the first race of the year. Schedule: 35-lap NASCAR All-American Series SK Modified, 30-lap Late Model, 25-lap Street Stock, 25-lap Mini Stock, 25-lap SK Light Modified and 25-lap NEMA Lite. Grandstands open: 3 p.m.; Qualifying: 4:30 p.m.; Features: 7 p.m.

More: The fifth event of the season at the shoreline oval. … Last week, reigning division champion Keith Rocco went to a backup car after a heat race crash then recovered from an early race incident to win the SK Modified feature. It was Rocco’s second victory in four SK Modified events at Waterford in 2013. He has finished second in the other two events. … Tyler Chadwick and Ed Puleo are the other winners in the SK Modified division at Waterford this year. … Rocco holds a 34-point lead over second place Craig Lutz in the SK Modified division standings. Puleo is third, 45 points off the lead and Timmy Jordan is fourth, 46 points from the top of the standings. …. Jordan, who came to the division this year from the Valenti Modified Racing Series, had a career best second place finish in his fourth career SK Modified start last week. … Rocco, who was also the track’s 2013 Late Model division, won last week in that division and has won all four Late Model events at the track in 2014. … Last week, Josh Galvin (Street Stocks) and Ken Cassidy Jr. (Mini Stocks) both came back from disqualifications of victories in their most previous events to win again. … For more information check the Waterford Speedbowl website.
