WATERFORD – After winning his third Late Model event in three races in 2014 at the Waterford Speedbowl on April 19, Keith Rocco said thinking about going undefeated in the division for the season wasn’t even a fantasy thought.

Saturday though he kept that happening a a possible reality for one more week.

Rocco, of Wallingford, rolled easily over the closing laps to victory in the 30-lap Late Model feature Saturday at Waterford for his fourth victory in four events this year.

Bruce Thomas Jr. of Groton was second and Tommy Barrett Jr. of Millis, Mass., making his first career start in a Late Model, was third.

Rocco matched Mike Daigneault as the only drivers ever to win the first four Late Model events of the season at Waterford. Daigneault accomplished the feat in 1971.

“It just seems like every week we’re busting more records around here that I didn’t even know existed,” Rocco said.

Rocco, who won the division’s championship in his first full-time season in the division in 2013, has been virtually untouchable at the front of Late Model fields this year at Waterford.

Rocco was running in third behind leader Jeff Smith and second place Jason Palmer with 22 laps left when contact between the two sent both spinning.

“I’ve got a great spotter on the radio,” Rocco said. “I didn’t know which way they were going to go there. My spotter told me ‘Brakes, brakes, brakes, check up’ and all that good stuff. Palmer spun to the bottom and [Smith] went to the top and we had a little hole right in the middle.”

Thomas was able to go by Barrett for second place with 13 laps remaining, but never had anything to challenge Rocco at the front.

“He’s just too fast for me right now on the short runs,” Thomas said. “Who am I kidding, it’s on the long runs too. But I’m getting close, I’m going to get him.”

  1. I don’t think that anyone will beat Rocco unless he wrecks, car breaks or maybe an outsider comes in from the act tour. Does Waterford have any rules in place where they can start adding weight to his car for every win?

  2. Stu Fearn says

Ya change the rules just because he’s better. Good idea

  3. bubba smith jr says

you know having honest people to tech the car would change everything he is no different than anybody else. act tour legal not a chance.

  4. Please there is no one else there who is spending the money Fearn spends on the car and there is no talent there maybe 2 at best drivers in the massive 10 to 13 car field WOW a lot to beat, some are still metric chassises probably but to say he is awesome is under statement because if the car is so great go qualify for an ACT TOUR race and win where there are people of equal talent and stop racing the weekend no money racer!!! race with people who are spending the same amount of money????Put any driver in that car and they can win at the bowl THERE IS NO COMPETITION THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!! SORRY truth hurts.

  5. Andy da woodchuck says

Bruce can’t even be him with his cheating rig. He (Bruce) must be thinking “what is he doing that I haven’t done” lol

  6. heat winner says

Some are metric chassis lol Ill eat my hat if 1 of them is. I did hear that Fearn has 60k into a car that anyone could build for 25k.
