Chris Garside looks over his Late Model, that he’s loaning to Keith Rocco tonight at the Waterford Speedbowl

WATERFORD – Keith Rocco will be trading in his normally all black Late Model at the Waterford Speedbowl for a blue and yellow ride for the division’s 30-lap feature Saturday night.

Rocco saw his Scott Fearn Late Model destroyed in a hard wreck early in the 25-lap Late Model feature Thursday at Thompson Speedway. It was the car Rocco used to win the first five Late Model features of the 2014 at Waterford.

Fearn said it will be at least a couple weeks before they can have Rocco’s primary car repaired.

So Saturday, instead of running his typical No. 1 car, Rocco, of Wallingford, will be behind the wheel of the No. 83 car normally driven by Chris Garside.

“We were up at Thompson helping Dennis Perry with his [SK Modified] and I saw [Rocco’s] car coming in on the wrecker so, I’m not in it for points here really, we’re here for fun, so I offered my car for him,” Garside said. “I know he’s running for a championship.”

Rocco, the 2013 Late Model champion at Waterford, currently sits at the top of the division’s standings with a 38-point lead over Bruce Thomas Jr.

Garside, a rookie in the division, has started seven events this year.

“[Rocco] knows what the car needs,” Garside said. “He’s changing a few things and he’ll help me out a little bit with it and get the car going better for me.”

— A late arrival to the pits Saturday afternoon was SK Modified division driver Tim Jordan of Plainfield.

Jordan’s team quickly unloaded a newly put together ride ready to make its debut Saturday night.

Jordan is currently third in the SK Modified standings at the track, 77 points behind Rocco, who leads the division.

— How bad does Glen Griswold want to race his SK Light Modified?

Enough that he showed up, with his car, Saturday night at the Speedbowl, even though the SK Light Modified division is not on the schedule.

“Forgot to look at the schedule,” said Griswold, of Vernon. “I didn’t realize we weren’t racing tonight.”

Griswold will be allowed by the track to run in the SK Modified division tonight.

— Returning to the SK Modified division lineup Saturday night, also with a new ride, is Street Stock division regular Al Stone III of Durham.

Stone was a regular in the SK Modified division in 2012 before returning to the Street Stock division last season.

— After missing last week’s event at Waterford, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour rookie Tommy Barrett Jr. returned was back in the lineup in the Ted Butler owned Modified that he has run twice this year. Barrett finished third in his first appearance in the division on May 3 and was fourth on May 17.
