Waterford Notes: Toby Wells Wins Northeast Mini Stock Feature; Robin Berghman Tops Pro Four Mod Field

New Speedbowl LogoWATERFORD – Toby Wells of Dublin, N.H. survived a pair of green-white-checkered attempts to win the 50-lap Northeast Mini Stock Tour feature Saturday at the Waterford Speedbowl.

Shawn Swallow of Stark, N.H. was second and Emerson Cayer of Contoocook, N.H. third.

“The car was awesome,” Wells said. “I’m a new fan of this track. Love it, love this track.”

Wells has now won the first two legs of the division’s Thirty Racewear Triple crown series for 2014, which encompasses the events at the three Connecticut short tracks. Wells won at Stafford Motor Speedway in April. He’ll look to sweep the triple crown on Oct. 18 at Thompson Speedway.

If Wells can win at Thompson he will receive a free firesuit from Thirty Racewear valued at $999.

Reigning series champion Robin Berghman of East Providence, R.I. won the 25-lap New England Pro Four Modified feature.

Berghman said her decision to step away from racing soon made Saturday’s event at Waterford, her first victory at the shoreline oval, that much better.

“This is probably my last time driving here so it’s pretty awesome,” Berghman said. “… So this is a pretty special win.”

Norm Wrenn of Nashua, N.H. was second and Dan Meservey Jr. of West Chatham, Mass. third.

Jordan Hadley of Quaker Hill won the 25-lap X-Car feature. Richard Nye of Stonington was second and Zach Thomas of New London third.
