WATERFORD – Sunday Keith Rocco will celebrate his first Father’s Day as a dad.

Saturday night he began the celebration early by showing his infant son KJ what domination looks like.

Rocco, of Wallingford, left the field in his wake on the way to victory in the 40-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature.

Craig Lutz of Miller Place, N.Y. was second and Ted Christopher of Plainville third.

Rocco also won in domination fashion in the 30-lap Late Model feature Saturday at Waterford.

“Apparently my son wanted me to win both tonight,” Rocco said. “That that was my gift.”

Rocco started 12th in the SK Modified field and rocketed to the front. When the first caution flew four laps into the event he was up to fourth.

On the ensuing restart, Rocco used the middle lane on three-wide move off of turn four to go by Craig Lutz and Ted Christopher and move into second place.

“There was a hole there, it looked like it fit,” Rocco said. “[Christopher] didn’t seem too happy when he drove into [turns] one and two as hard as he could. But you have to go. Sometimes, depending on who you’re with, it’s the race to the front that wins the race. You get somebody else that’s just as fast as you, it’s tough to get by them.”

With 31 laps left Rocco went by Tim Jordan for the lead and was never challenged again, driving far away from the field as the race went caution free the rest of the way.

It was the second consecutive win in the division for Rocco and his fifth victory in 10 SK Modified races this year at Waterford. He has four seconds and a third place in the other five events.

“This car has been absolutely awesome the past few weeks,” Rocco said. “Northeast Racecars finally got this chassis back to where it was supposed to be after it got bent. We’ve been fine tuning on it. I think it’s better than it’s ever been.”
