Donny Lia Puts Mystic Missile On Pole For Whelen Mod Tour Mr. Rooter 161 At Waterford

WATERFORD – It was a case of home team domination in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Mr. Rooter 161 qualifying Saturday afternoon at the Waterford Speedbowl.

Donny Lia, driving for Mystic based owner Bob Garbarino, put the team’s “Mystic Missile” on the pole for tonight’s Mr. Rooter 161 at Waterford.

Lia, who was the last of 28 cars to go out in qualifying, toured the the one-third mile shoreline oval in 13.869 seconds (97.339 mph) to snare his 19th career series pole. It was the first pole of the 2014 season for the Jericho, N.Y. driver and his first at Waterford.

Bobby Santos III of Franklin, Mass. was second fastest in qualifying at 14.003 seconds (96.408 mph).

Santos had been fastest in practice earlier in the day.

Eric Goodale was third fastest during qualifying at 14.024 seconds (96.264 mph).
