From Stafford Motor Speedway to the Waterford Speedbowl, the action on the track was heated this past weekend on the local racing scene.
And that heat transferred right over into the battle for the New England Racing Fuel Support Performer of the Week Award.
In the end, Stafford Speedway SK Light Modified division driver Joey Ferrigno of East Hartford came out on top of a feisty battle for votes with Stafford Speedway Limited Late Model division driver Justin Bren of Palmer, Mass.
A record 1,584 votes were cast for the award between Sunday and Tuesday, with Ferrigno garnering 657 of the votes.
Bren, who led in the voting as late as Tuesday evening, finished with 563 votes.
Stafford Speedway DARE Stock division driver Johnny Walker was third in the voting with 208 votes.
Each week during the 2014 racing season the New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Support Performer of the Week will be chosen from among drivers competing in events in one of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly support divisions (excludes SK Modified divisions) at Stafford Motor Speedway, Thompson Speedway and the Waterford Speedbowl.
Ferrigno will receive a $20 certificate for race fuel from New England Racing Fuel. The final voting results are listed below.
