Joey Mucciacciaro was looking for a Modified ride to fill the down time between Super Late Model events, and Vin Beedle was looking for a driver to fill an open seat in his Mr. Rooter Racing stable at the Waterford Speedbowl.

Problem solved for both sides.

The 17-year old Mucciacciaro, from Wolcott, will join the Mr. Rooter Racing team at the Waterford Speedbowl to compete with the team’s No. 29 SK Modified that had been previously run regularly by Jeff Rocco.

Rocco and the team parted ways last month.

The deal was originally planned to be a one-off event for Mucciacciaro to run the car in the June 21 SK Modified feature at the Speedbowl, the night of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Mr. Rooter 161 at the Waterford Speedbowl.

But the deal could be growing into something more regular for Mucciacciaro at Wateford for the rest of the 2014 season.

Mucciacciaro will test the ride on Thursday at Waterford and Beedle said, depending on how that goes, Mucciacciaro could be in the lineup for this Saturday’s SK Modified feature at the Speedbowl.

“He’s an up and coming kid and we’re excited to have him in the car,” Beedle said. “I think it’s a good deal. He’s definitely talented, he’s a good kid and he comes from a great family. I’m excited about it.”

Mucciaciaro is primarily focusing this year on competing in some of the bigger Super Late Model events across the country. He competed this past weekend in the ARCA Midwest Tour Howie Lettow Memorial 150, where he finished 12th. He began racing Legends at the Waterford Speedbowl in 2009.

“What I came from is the Waterford Speedbowl,” Mucciacciaro said. “… To be able to come back and not only be able to run and race against a lot of guys that I’ve admired since I was younger and grown up and looked up to …  it’s just exciting.”

Mucciacciaro’s only previous experience in a Modified was testing a Tour Type car at Caraway Speedway in Sophia, N.C. two years ago. He also has experience running with the Northeastern Midget Association. He’s hoping that he and Beedle can finalize a deal that sees him running regularly in the SK Modified for the rest of the year in events that don’t conflict with his Super Late Model commitments.

“It’s really just exciting because I didn’t think I’d have a seat in a Modified this year, but I really wanted to,” Mucciacciaro said. “We’re not racing in the Super Late Model every weekend, so it’s nice to have a seat that I’ll be able to sit in every week. … I think me and Vinny we’ll make a good match this year and we’ll get it done.”

  3. Andy Da Woodchuck says

Thanks for revising the quote and deleted all the comments (which I didn’t say anything wrong either). you’re just making this way to easy for the haters. #everyoneisright #bias

  4. Andy Da Woodchuck,
A 17-year old kid said something that didn’t come out the way he wanted it to sound, was upset about how it came out and requested that I revise what he said and I did that for him. Do you have so little to do in your life that you sit here waiting to pounce on the misspoken words of a 17-year old, and then sit and wait for others to jump on board with you? Really? Isn’t there a little more to life than stalking the comments section of a website to verbally beat up on 17-year old kids? I get it, you come here to criticize everything, that’s no shocker. If you don’t like what I did and you think I’m an awful person for helping the guy out, nobody is making you come back here tomorrow. Go follow all the other websites that cover auto racing in Southern New England. Have a great day, good riddance, please don’t come back.

  5. Da Woodchuck went back into hibernation… SHUT DOWN! lol

  6. Would like to have seen someone with SK experience like a Joey Cipriano
