Lucky Roll: JJ Hill Back To Victory Lane In Late Model Feature At Stafford Speedway

STAFFORD – A casino is probably not a place one will often see JJ Hill hanging around.

Luck is something Hill said flies all over the place for him.

“Whether it’s bad or good, I have some sort of luck,” Hill said. “I guess most people are like that. But it really is extremes for me. There is no middle ground.”

But Friday the bad luck that has seemingly trailed Hill for over a year on the track, finally turned in a big way for the Stafford driver.

Hill went to the lead past Kyle Casagrande on lap 13 and never trailed again on the way to victory in the 30-lap Late Model feature Friday at Stafford Speedway.

Adam Gray of Belchertown, Mass. was second and Jay Stuart of Preston third.

It was the fifth career Late Model victory at Stafford for Hill, but his first since April 28, 2013.

“It does seem like every week we get caught up in something,” Hill said. “It’s not fun. We’ve had to do a lot of rebuilding this year unfortunately. So a night like tonight where we can go home and just wipe it down and do the simple things gets everybody’s spirit’s up a little bit. It’s a team thing.

“You almost wonder, ‘Are we going to get back there?’ Especially when the luck is just going downhill fast. It’s very frustrating when you know you have a very good car.”

Gray had nothing for Hill over the closing laps.

“He just got out there,” Gray said. “A few more laps I think we could have got to him, but he was so fast tonight. Congrats to JJ.”
