Connecticut short track racing fans get a treat this weekend.

Want to compare the 2014 editions of the Valenti Modified Racing Series and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour? This is the weekend to do it.

The Valenti Modified Racing Series hits the half-mile at Stafford Motor Speedway for the first of three visits to the track this year on Friday night.

And on Saturday night the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour is at the Waterford Speedbowl for the running of the Mr. Rooter 161, the only visit of the year to the shoreline oval for the series.

What: Valenti Modified Racing and NASCAR Whelen All-American Series event

More: The 11th event of the season at the shoreline oval. … The first and only visit of the season to the Waterford Speedbowl by the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. The fourth of eight visits for the division to state short tracks in 2014. … The Whelen Modified Tour opened its season at Thompson with Justin Bonsigore winning on April 6. Bobby Santos III won at Stafford on April 27 and Doug Coby won at Stafford on June 6. … The Whelen Modified Tour returned to the Waterford Speedbowl schedule in 2012 after a six-year hiatus. Doug Coby came out on top of a fierce closing laps battle with Ryan Preece to win in 2012 at Waterford. Coby went on to win the his first series championship that year. Last year it was Preece winning in the closing laps battle with Coby at Waterford.
