Stafford Notes: Tom Fearn Grabs Late Model Victory; Johnny Walker Tops DARE Stocks

SMS-LOGO-HOME-PAGE-2012STAFFORD – It seemed the only safe place on the track in a Late Model at Stafford Speedway was at the front.

And that was where Tom Fearn raced and stayed, watching the carnage behind him on the way to victory in the 30-lap Late Model feature Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

It was the first victory of the season for Fearn, of East Longmeadow, Mass.

Jay Stuart of Preston was second. Cory Casagrande of Stafford recovered from multiple issues to finish third.

“We had to stay out of trouble and get to the front as quick as we could,” Fearn said “I guess some other guys had some bad luck. It’s great to win. It never gets old.”

Stuart survived a bruising battle for second place on lap 24 with reigning division champion Adam Gray.

“I’m surprised my car finished. I hit the wall out of [turn] two,” Stuart said. “I got hooked with [Adam Gray] off of [turn] two and I bounced off the wall and kept going. The car wasn’t quite the same after that, but pretty good.”

Johnny Walker got his second career victory in the 15-lap DARE Stock feature. Frank L’Etoile of Wethersfield was second and Jeff Jolly of Wallingford third.

Justin Bren of Palmer, Mass. recorded his first career victory in the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature.

Albert Saunders of Stafford was second and Norm Sears of Andover third.

Dana DiMatteo of Farmington passed Joey Ternullo for the lead on lap 14 and went on to victory in the 20-lap Legends feature.

Mike Christopher Jr. of Wolcott was second and Ternullo, of Middletown, third.
