Ben Rhodes will go looking to make K&N Pro Series East history from the front of the field Friday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Rhodes set a new track record in qualifying for Thursday for Friday’s K&N Pro Series East Granite State 100.

Rhodes toured the 1.058-mile oval in 27.998 seconds (128.580 mph).

“I was expecting to run a little faster, but the track has certainly got a lot slicker out there,” Rhodes said. “We ran (a 29.4 seconds time) in practice, so I was expecting a little bit quicker time. I don’t really look at the records that much. When it comes to records, whatever happens, happens. I don’t want to put that kind of pressure on myself.”

Rhodes, a 17-year old rookie leads the series standings with eight top-fives in nine races this season, including five victories.

He goes into Friday’s race looking for his fifth consecutive victory, which would eclipse Ricky Craven’s record of four consecutive series wins set in 1991. Craven got his fourth consecutive at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Jesse Little, Chad Finley, Sergio Pena and Gray Gaulding made up the remainder of the top-five in qualifying Thursday.
