Keith Rocco, Ryan Preece Both Fall In Whelen All-American Series National Standings

Whelen All American Series LogoLocal racers Keith Rocco and Ryan Preece both were going backwards in this week’s edition of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series short track national standings.

Rocco, of Wallingford, who climbed to second in the country last week, fell to third this week. Preece, of Berlin, fell from fifth to seventh.

Anthony Anders continued to lead the national standings once again this week.

The 43-year old Anders has 17 wins, 26 top-five’s and 28 top-10’s in 30 starts this year between Greenville (S.C.) Pickens Speedway, Anderson (S.C.) Motor Speedway, Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Speedway and Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway. He has 684 points.

Under the point structure for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Division I standings, a race winner receives two points for every car in the event up to 18 cars. Second place receives two fewer points and so on through the field. Three bonus points will be awarded to a race winner with a single-digit starting position and five bonus points will be awarded to a race winner with a double-digit starting position.

Two-time defending national champion Lee Pulliam of Semora, N.C. moved from third to second 657 points. Pulliam has 11 victories and 18 top five’s in 22 starts this year between Southern National Motorsports Park in Kenly, N.C., South Boston and Motor Mile.

Rocco, the 2010 Whelen All-American Series National Champion, competes full-time in the Whelen All-American Division I SK Modified ranks at the Waterford Speedbowl, Stafford Motor Speedway and Thompson Speedway.

Rocco has seven victories, 17 top-fives and 20 top-10’s in 20 starts this year for 633 points. In 12 starts at Waterford he has six wins, five seconds and a third. His other victory came at Thompson.

Preece has 558 points on the strength of six victories, 15 top-five’s and 19 top-10’s in 20 starts. Preece competes full-time in the SK Modified divisions at Stafford and Thompson and part-time in the Tour Type Modified division at Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway and the SK Modified division at Waterford.
