When Stafford Motor Speedway official Tom Fox was forced to back out an SK Light Modified opportunity for this weekend at the Waterford Speebdowl, the ownership behind the car didn’t have to look to far for another driver.

Car owner Gino Difilippo Jr., also the owner of RH2Way, looked to the Late Model division at the Waterford Speedbowl and found the driver he was looking for.

Old Lyme’s Jeff Smith, a Waterford Speedbowl Late Model division regular, will make his SK Light Modified division debut in Saturday’s 25-lap feature at the shoreline oval.

Smith will be part of a three-car team effort between himself and Paul French’s Horsepower Hill operation. Smith, French, of Andover, and Joey Ferrigno of East Hartford, will make up the three car effort.

Smith tested in French’s SK Light Modified Thursday at the Waterford Speedbowl, completing his first laps behind the wheel of any sort of Modified.

“To me the car, in a way it felt easier to drive, said Smith, the 2011 Late Model division champion at Waterford. “I loved driving the car. I think it’s a great opportunity to run. I just want to thank Gino and Paul for his opportunity. This is a big deal to get to do this now.”
