The circus that is the Sprint Cup Series has packed up the tents and moved on out of New England and it’s back to basics in Connecticut racing this weekend.

Stafford Motor Speedway gets back into action Friday with a visit by the Valenti Modified Racing Series the track for the Lincoln Tech 80.

Also on Friday at Stafford Speedway, the SK Light Modified division will have a special event. Teams in the division will go an extra two laps and have some extra in the purse as part of the first RH2Way “Going The Extra Mile” event.

And after a week off, the Waterford Speedbowl returns to action Saturday with a regularly scheduled Whelen All-American Series racing card.

Todd Szegedy won in the division’s first visit to Stafford on June 20. … The series visits state short tracks eight times this year with three events scheduled at the Waterford Speedbowl and two at Thompson. … Keith Rocco won the division’s season opening event at Waterford on April 13. It was the seventh victory in 13 SK Modified events at Waterford in 2014 for Rocco. He has five second place finishes and a third place finish in the other six events. … Other winners this year include Ed Puleo, Tyler Chadwick, Joey Gada, Kyle James and Craig Lutz. … Rocco has built a massive lead over the field in the standings, holding a 142-point advantage over second place Lutz.
